Why Video Surveillance is Important for Management
There is no special formula for creating and sustaining a successful business, however, there are key factors that must be met to assist in making sure the business is set up to win. One of the key make-or-break factors for a business is the ability to maintain operational efficiency. Leaders must use a variety of tools to gather data, make plans, and supervise both the workplace and the workforce. Video surveillance is one such tool that can serve as a critical contributor to improved operational efficiency.
For some insight on this subject, we touched base with our own Director of Operations, Tony Damond. As a retired Army First Sergeant, he has been managing people and processes for decades and knows first hand that the job requires a keen understanding of workflow, a systematic approach to doing things, and, often, “eyes in the back of your head” to verify that what is done is always done right.
We interviewed Tony and he offered us some helpful insights into his role, and how a manager could use video surveillance to help get the job done well.
WHY IS VIDEO SURVEILLANCE IMPORTANT?
You’re able to see what’s going on in real-time, even while you are off-sight or even working from home.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEAM MANAGER AND CAN VIDEO SURVEILLANCE PLAY A ROLE IN MAKING THEIR JOB EASIER?
A good team manager is someone who is able to give out information and make sure their team knows what task needs to be done and manages their personnel - from training to job execution, and including their team’s health and wellness. A video surveillance system can help track employee movements throughout the building, and communication between team members in separate workspaces.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE FOR INVENTORY AND ASSETS?
You must protect your inventory and assets. With video surveillance, you can see who is touching and using the materials to make sure they are following policies and regulations. You can make sure they are signing out their equipment and checking it in. It just helps to deter theft in an organization. It also provides a forensic file which helps in locating missing items if necessary.
HOW DOES VIDEO SURVEILLANCE PLAY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF A TEAM?
If they are working onsite it helps me to make sure that they are following safety precautions and staying on task.
WHO DO YOU BELIEVE SHOULD HAVE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE?
Any and every business that wants to keep track of their team and inventory. Whether business owners want to use analytics to track line queues and people counting, watch entries and exits after hours, use video to support a worker’s compensation case, or deter an unlawful act, there are countless ways that video surveillance can add value to a business of any size.
Video surveillance offers more than just deterring or catching criminals inside and outside your property, but it supports the productivity and protection of all employees. Knowing where our equipment, materials, and tools are critical to our small business and we assume that the investments you’ve made in your company are a priority for you. Your team and your assets deserve to be well protected.
