Leadership in a Pandemic
Good morning,
We are entering Week 7 of the COVID-19 pandemic, a crisis unlike anything we have ever seen before and one that has touched each of us in significant ways.
Abiding by the social distancing requirements has indeed helped to “flatten the curve”, but not without personal cost – the life events that we’ve counted on loved ones to share – births, deaths, weddings, and funerals, to name a few – have continued, but without the comfort of a shared experience.
Olympic athletes have had to stand down their training and wait for a better year. Once in a lifetime trips have been cancelled. Easter services were celebrated in isolation. Households everywhere have been impacted by the daily disturbance of missed events, homeschooling headaches, income disruption, and more.
But during times of adversity, values are tested, and the goodness shines through brightly.
As the CEO of a company that supports critical infrastructure and has therefore been deemed “essential” I am immensely proud and grateful for how our team has managed to balance the impact of the crisis on themselves and their families while simultaneously reaching deep and finding positive and responsible ways to serve our customers and our community.
This is far from business as usual, but our trucks continue to roll. Amidst the loss, anxiety, disruption, and despair, I find a silver lining in our team’s resilience and commitment to serve.
They continue to show their best selves, breathing life into our company and bringing value to the mission we serve.
Thank you,
Kathleen
