Is it time to update your structured cabling?
High performance data networks have become commonplace in today’s world, and have created a demand for appropriate cabling that can transmit faster speeds over longer distances.
The Category 6a, or Cat6a, cable is the latest iteration of Gigabit Ethernet cabling. The “a” stands for "augmented" and is a nod to Cat6a's improved specifications compared with its predecessor, the Category 6, or Cat6 cable. Cat6a cable doubles transmission bandwidth over Cat6, from 250to 500 MHz and decreases crosstalk interference, providing superior reliability and transmission speeds.
Cat6a has become the industry standard for data centers, health care markets, and in support of building automation and wireless networks and access points.
Is it worth upgrading?
The trend in technology is towards greater use of bandwidth, making the investment in higher-grade cables a good idea to “future-proof” your network. If your business is installing new equipment and cabling, the initial investment in Cat6a cabling will be higher, but the network’s capacity and performance will be faster, more reliable, and able to meet tomorrow’s demands without any expensive re-run of higher specification cable when emerging technologies surpass today’s demand.
